According to CNN, three more police officers were injured in the incident in the state of Texas. The incident happened Thursday (July 15) in the western Texas town of Leveland, CNN reported.
An unidentified man set up a barricade in front of a house in the town of Leveland, CNN reported. Later, when the local police went, the man fired a surprise shot. A police officer was later killed on the spot in a shootout between the two sides.
Three others were injured. Three injured police officers have been admitted to a local hospital. Doctors said their condition was critical. The town of Leveland is located 50 kilometers west of Lubbock, another city in the state of Texas.
Meanwhile, Lubbock Avalanchi-Journal, a local Texas newspaper, said it was not immediately clear why police fired shots at the unidentified gunman or why the accused barricaded the front of the house. But Texas police have begun a preliminary investigation, they said.
